Nick Hurt is a guitarist from Austin who holds a Masters of Music in Music and Human Learning from the University of Texas. He is a teacher, folk singer, classical radio DJ and sometimes T-shirt designer. He likes farmers markets and swimming in natural bodies of water.

Nicolas Hurt grew up in Austin, Texas swimming in Barton Springs and playing a Stratocaster. As a kid, Hurt played in bands that gigged around Austin in venues like Stubb’s, Antone’s, Emo’s, and the Broken Spoke. Hurt's next band, SPEAK, performed frequently in the SXSW music festival, performed in the 2011 Austin City Limits music festival, and toured the USA and Canada several times. SPEAK released an EP and two full length albums with Playing in Traffic Records, Modern Art Records, and Atlantic Records.
Hurt began his study of the classical guitar with Dr. Kim Perlak and Dr. Klondike Steadman before entering the University of Texas Butler School of Music and studying with the renowned guitarist and teacher Adam Holzman. At the University of Texas, Hurt also studied guitar with Dr. Celil Refik Kaya and studied pedagogy with Dr. Laurie Scott and Dr. Robert Duke. He holds a Bachelor of Music and a Master of Music in Music and Human Learning from the University of Texas.
Hurt has performed as a soloist in music festivals in Paracho, Mexico, Cervo, Italy, and New Milford, Connecticut and has given concerts in Marfa and Austin, Texas. Hurt has also performed with the Orpheus Guitar Trio at Carnegie Hall in New York City.
As an educator, Hurt has worked extensively with children and adults in various musical genres. Hurt completed the National Guitar Workshop Teacher Assistant training program, the Orpheus Academy of Music work / study program, and held a studio at the Orpheus Academy of Music for many years. Hurt is currently teaching at Sul Ross State University in Alpine, Texas.
In 2023 Hurt's debut film, Serenade, I Miss You, premiered at the Rosette through Austin Classical Guitar. Matthew Hinsley, the director of Austin Classical Guitar, said of the film, "this is the movie all musicians wish would be made about musicians, giving insight into the craft and voice to the hopes behind the performances everyone sees on stage."
In 2024 Hurt began the classical guitar concert series, Guitar in the Big Bend. Guitar in the Big Bend brings world class performers and educators to the Big Bend area. The first visiting artist was Dragos Illie of Romania.
Hurt lives in Marfa, Texas with his partner Janelle.
